A

asthenosphere - upper level of the mantle. Mostly solid rock with plastic like consistancy. Allows for plates to "float" on the surface.

B

Biodiversity - The number of different specie in a given area. High biodiversity leads to a stronger ecosystem as other organism can fill in niches as need arises.

C

D

E

F

Fragmentation (of habitat) - the dividing of habitat by boundaries that prevent organisms from having access to original area. This leads to lower biodiversity since organisms are more prone to inbreed with the local population. Also, limited migration makes starvation and depletion of resources occur with greater frequency.

G

H

I

Invasive species - Introduced or non-native species that lacks predators in the new habitat. This leads to overpopulation of the invasive species and to the overconsumption of vital resources for native organisms.

N

Newton's Laws of Motion - First law - An object will maintain constant velocity unless a net outside force acts on it. Second law - F = ma. Third law - all forces occur in pairs, for every action force there exists a reaction force acting on the opposing body with the same magnitude, but in the opposite direction.

ZPG - Zero population growth. When couples have only 2 children (actually about 2.1 due to child deaths) then the children exactly replace their parents upon leaving zero net growth to the population
